Learn More About Drones At FAA-sponsored Conference, Hosted By UND

UND will host FAA’s ‘Droning on: Great Lakes Edition’ event from Oct. 13-15

 

UND will host three days of drone workshops, seminars and activities with the Federal Aviation Administration’s Droning On: Great Lakes Edition event.

The event will run from Oct. 13-15 at Ryan Hall at 4251 University Avenue, on the west end of the UND campus. Registration for the event will be held from 8 to 9 a.m., though people can register for the event online. The event is free and open to the public. The full schedule of events can also be found online.

According to the FAA, there are nine national regions within the U.S. Each region is expanding outreach with in-person events. The goal is to hold a series of events for people of different audiences to highlight the societal, economic and educational benefits of drones for the general public.

The event consists of three days of panels, lectures and demonstrations:

Thursday, Oct. 13: For Students and Educators

  • Universities and colleges with UAS programs
  • Companies/organizations that are looking for drone professionals
  • Tools for educators

Friday, Oct. 14: For Public Safety and State/Local/Tribal Governments

  • Public Safety Training
  • Agricultural uses of drones
  • Local Government best practices and resources

Saturday, Oct. 15: For the General Public

  • Drone Demonstrations
  • Local Drone Groups
  • How to get started

On Saturday, the UND Research Institute for Autonomous Systems drone cage will be set up in the hangar in Robin Hall for kids to experience flying drones. There will also be several flying demonstrations in the parking lot of the building. People with an interest in drone flying can speak with experts about their many different uses.
