MEDIA ADVISORY: UND Runway Accelerator showcases startups in upcoming event

UND Student Entrepreneur program to hold pitch event on Wednesday, May 1

The University of North Dakota is excited to announce that the annual Runway Showcase event will take place on Wednesday, May 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the UND Memorial Union Social Staircase. This showcase will show the progress that four UND students have made toward advancing their businesses.

Last fall, four UND students were awarded up to $10,000 each in grant funding through the Runway Accelerator program. During this showcase, they will show how the $10,000 will help them grow their businesses from ideas into reality.

The students and their businesses are Micah Bruggeman, “Campus Comfort Movers;” Landon Walker, “KiX Golf,” a protective shoe bag design; Junior Chapusette, “Rolling Video Games,” a mobile videogaming venue; and Toyosi Olola, creator of “,” an app designed to help immigrants navigate the process of getting a visa.

Runway is designed to provide a launching pad for student startups, offering resources, mentorship and funding. The program is led by Sona Lesmeister and Anthony Maher, both of whom work as entrepreneurial coaches at the UND Center for Innovation.

Runway receives support from the Start-up Fund of the Center for Innovation and UND’s Nistler College of Business & Public Administration. It is a two-phase initiative that integrates start-up education, mentorship from staff and faculty and networking opportunities with peers and industry experts, and also provides mini-grant funding of up to $10,000 to assist UND student and alumni ventures.
