The Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center (MPATTC) has received a $3.9 million grant for operational funding.

The funding, a Mental Health & Substance Abuse Service Grant, was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and was first announced by Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., in mid-September. The Center will receive more than $777,000 a year for the next five years.

The Center is co-located at UND and the University of Nevada, Reno, and is one of 10 U.S.-based centers that serve the 50 states and several U.S. territories. The centers provide evidence-based addiction treatment and recovery-oriented practices and services to healthcare providers.

“UND is proud to continue offering training and technical assistance related to substance use disorder for the mountain and plains region,” said Ryan Flinn, Rose Isabelle Kelly Fischer Professor at UND, and co-director of the Center.

The Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center serves Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. Staff there work to enhance substance use disorder treatment and recovery services for people and their families. In particular, the Center focuses on people living in remote or rural areas.

The Center provides training sessions and resources for providers across a variety of areas, from alcohol and stimulants to adolescent resources to recruiting, hiring and retaining human service staff, and beyond. More information on training and resources can be found on the Center’s website.

People dealing with substance use disorder can find confidential and anonymous help by visiting FindTreatment.gov. People in crisis or who are experiencing suicidal thoughts can call or text 988 for support. Treatment and referral information can also be found by calling 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
