ND SBDC advisors earn national export trade certifications

The North Dakota Small Business Development Centers announce that Paul Smith and Nicole Evans have renewed national Export and Trade Counseling certifications, reinforcing ND SBDC’s expertise in advising North Dakota businesses on international market opportunities.
Smith and Evans renewed the Export and Trade Counseling Certificate at the intermediate level, demonstrating advanced competency in export and trade counseling. This certification recognizes work in helping businesses evaluate and pursue international growth strategies.
Professional export certification requires specialized training and demonstrated knowledge of federal trade programs, compliance considerations and international market development. By completing and renewing these credentials, ND SBDC ensures its advisors remain equipped to guide clients through export readiness assessments and connect them with appropriate state and federal resources. ND SBDC works in coordination with in-state partners who specialize in international trade and regularly refers clients to those organizations for market development, trade missions and other export specific services.
“Exporting can be a strong growth strategy for many North Dakota businesses, but it also comes with unique challenges,” said Tiffany Ford, ND SBDC state director. “These certifications help ensure our team has the knowledge and tools to guide clients toward the right resources and opportunities as they explore international markets.”
The Export and Trade Counseling Certificate is part of a national effort to strengthen international trade advising capacity within Small Business Development Centers, supporting professionals who help small businesses evaluate export readiness and navigate international market growth. The certificate is presented in partnership with federal trade partners, including the Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee, an interagency committee chaired by the Secretary of Commerce that coordinates U.S. government export promotion and export financing activities.
