UND professor leads publication of book on sustainable ceramics
New volume explores how advanced materials can support cleaner technologies and global carbon reduction goals

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Surojit Gupta, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of North Dakota, is the lead editor of a new book exploring how advanced ceramic materials can contribute to sustainable development and efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
The book, Engineered Ceramics for Sustainable Development and Net-Zero Carbon Emissions, brings together contributions from researchers, industry experts and members of the international ceramics community. It examines advances in engineered ceramics, composites and multifunctional materials, with an emphasis on their potential applications in sustainable technologies and reducing carbon emissions.
Gupta, who also serves as UND’s Harold L. and Io A. Severson Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship, collaborated with co-editors Mrityunjay Singh, Tatsuki Ohji and Michael C. Halbig on the publication.
The book aligns closely with Gupta’s research at UND, which focuses on sustainable materials, high-temperature ceramics and alloys, nanotechnology, additive manufacturing and environmentally responsible manufacturing processes.
Gupta has authored numerous technical publications and holds several patents, granted or pending. He received the American Ceramic Society’s Du-Co Ceramics Young Professional Award in 2019.
The book is available in hardcover and electronic formats through Barnes & Noble.
