Student Life Weekly (SLW) E-Newsletter

Stay in-the-know on UND events, news and important dates and deadlines with the Student Life Weekly (SLW) E-Newsletter! Sent to all current students by email every Monday during the academic year, this weekly e-newsletter is a student guide to what’s happening around campus.

How do I subscribe?

All currently enrolled UND students are automatically subscribed to Student Life Weekly at the start of each academic semester. Students may unsubscribe at any time.

Additional individuals who are not currently enrolled in classes may voluntarily subscribe. Enter your email in the subscribe section of this page to receive the weekly e-newsletter.

How do I submit events or information to the newsletter?

All requests for inclusion must be submitted to marketing@UND.edu and include the required items outlined below.

  • Event or item title
  • 2-3 sentence description
  • Date and time (if applicable)
  • Location
  • Registration details (if applicable)
  • Link to website or UND Events Calendar listing
  • RGB graphic sized 300 x 170 px

Submissions may be sent up to one month in advance and must be received no later than the Monday prior to distribution.

The submitting campus partner is responsible for notifying UND Marketing if event details change or if an event is canceled after submission.

Graphic Design Guidance

Graphics should be clear, simple and aligned with UND brand standards.

Use very minimal text and ensure your message is easy to understand at a glance.

What to Expect After You Submit

After submission, UND Marketing reviews content to ensure it aligns with University standards.

  • Content may be edited for clarity, length or consistency.
  • Graphics may be adjusted or recreated if needed.
  • Not all submissions are included due to space limitations.
  • Content selection is based on relevance, timeliness, audience breadth and alignment with institutional priorities.

Approved content may also be shared through other Student Life communication channels (e.g., Instagram, texting, My UND app) as appropriate.

Additional Submission Guidelines & Requirements

  • Submissions must be an event sponsored by or related to UND and must pertain to a large portion of the student body. Off-campus events will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • All date-specific items, including events and deadlines, must be submitted to and published on the UND Events Calendar prior to consideration for inclusion in Student Life Weekly. Publication on the Events Calendar does not guarantee inclusion in SLW.
  • As part of managing Student Life Weekly, UND Marketing reviews the UND Events Calendar on a regular basis and may add events to SLW that are relevant and of interest to a broad student audience, even if the event was not formally submitted for SLW consideration.

Submitted Content Notes

An individual item may appear in Student Life Weekly for a maximum of two consecutive weeks unless otherwise approved. Upon request, submissions may run for two consecutive weeks on two separate occasions (up to four total weeks), provided the item is removed for at least one week between runs. This option is most appropriate for large-scale or high-impact events that require advance awareness.

In general:

  • Grab-and-go food events, DIY activities, and athletic events are published the week of the event.
  • Speaker events and similar programs typically run for two weeks.
  • Large campus-wide initiatives or mission-critical notices (e.g., class registration reminders) may run longer at the discretion of UND Marketing.
  • The email subject line typically highlights three events to encourage students to open the newsletter. The spotlight section at the top of the email also features three selected items, generally emphasizing key deadlines or critical information. Campus partners may request placement in these areas; however, UND Marketing retains final authority over placement within the newsletter.

Content Limitations

The following content will not be included:

  • Promotions encouraging application, enrollment, or registration for individual academic programs, majors, or courses.
  • Individual survey promotions, except as approved at UND’s discretion.
  • Individual scholarships, employment opportunities, or internships that are already listed in official University systems, including Scholarship Central, the UND Human Resources website, or Handshake.
  • Business-hosted or off-campus events without official UND involvement are not eligible.

Discretionary Content

The following content types may be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be submitted by a UND employee representing the sponsoring department:

  • Special academic events or open houses open to all students.
  • Student organization activities open to the broader campus community.
  • Surveys open to the entire student body and focused on University-wide initiatives.
  • Scholarships or employment opportunities meeting criteria for broad student eligibility.
  • Large-scale student hiring initiatives critical to University operations.
  • Off-campus or community events with a UND affiliation may be considered at UND’s discretion.
  • Additionally, at UND’s discretion, Student Life Weekly may periodically reference the Greater Grand Forks calendar of events to increase student awareness of relevant community activities.
