Remembering Sharon Johnson
Sharon Johnson, 69, retired administrative assistant for the education department, passed away at home in East Grand Forks on Nov. 19, 2020.
Sharon Mae Goergen was born on May 8, 1951. She was raised alongside younger brother, Donald Goergen, in Euclid, MN by parents Robert Goergen and Carrol (Tiedeman) Goergen. She attended high school in Crookston, MN. At 19 years old, she met the love of her life, Donald Johnson and they were married in June of 1970. They resided in East Grand Forks and had two sons, Michael and Scott.
Sharon was a wonderful wife and mother always putting others before herself. She loved cooking for the three men in her household, giving routine haircuts, and being a constant support in every aspect of their lives. Many hours were spent on bleachers cheering on her boys and volunteering her time towards various activities. She loved gardening and had so many helpful tips when it came to it.
She was a great friend and hard worker, beginning her career as a beautician working for local salons and eventually finishing up her career as an administrative assistant at the University of North Dakota’s Education Department. While employed at UND, Sharon also earned a bachelor’s degree in social work. In her retired years, her greatest joy were her two grandchildren – watching them grow and learn. She loved her family with all her heart.
Sharon struggled with cancer and fought hard for every day that she could spend with her loving husband, her sons and her two beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Liv. Even on her toughest days, she would greet you with a smile and ask how you were doing. She was a symbol of strength, dignity and perseverance. Though we are all sad to know she is gone, we are comforted knowing that she is finally without pain and that she has been welcomed into God’s embrace.
Sharon leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Donnie Johnson (East Grand Forks), her sons, Michael Johnson (Fargo) and Scott (Emily) Johnson, and grandchildren Jack and Liv (Grand Forks), and her brother Donald (Levi) Goergen (Harwood, ND). She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Carrol Goergen.
