Physical Therapy seeks participants for research study on exercise following cancer treatment

The UND Department of Physical Therapy is seeking participants for a research study related to exercise following treatment for cancer.

The study will look at the effect of physical therapy on fatigue, balance, depression, and overall quality of life for individuals with a history of cancer.

The purpose of this research study is to examine how chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment affects the body systems, specifically balance, fatigue, depression, and quality of life and how physical therapy intervention may influence these factors.

The researchers anticipate those who underwent chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment will have a decrease in balance and quality of life, and an increase in fatigue and depression. It is anticipated by participating in exercise, balance and quality of life will improve and fatigue and depression will decrease.  Information gained from this study may be beneficial for health care providers to educate and allow patients the opportunity to minimize negative effects of cancer treatment.

The study will last seven weeks.  Each participant will be asked to come to UND to meet with the faculty and student researchers four times during this seven-week period.  The researchers will reach out to each participant each week (via email or phone) to monitor progress and to answer any questions.

To sign-up and/or to have any questions answered please reach out to the Department of Physical Therapy at 701-777-2831.
