Remembering Milt Winger

Milt Winger

Milton Winger, professor emeritus of Mathematics, Grand Forks, died Friday, April 8, in Northwood Deaconess Health Center. He was 90.

Milton was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Mayville, N.D., to Ernest and Ida (Master) Winger. He grew up in Mayville where he graduated high school. He attended Mayville State University, the University of North Dakota and received his Ph.D from Iowa State University.

He served two years in the U.S. Army before his honorable discharge in 1955.

Milton married Marjorie Root in Grand Forks on Jan. 18, 1954. Together they made their home in Grand Forks raising 2 children, Pamela and Thomas.

Milton worked for the University of North Dakota as a mathematics professor from 1956 until his retirement in 1992.

He enjoyed hunting, golf, crossword puzzles, traveling, music, watching kids/grandkids sports and was an avid UND fan. He served on several local committees over the years.

Milton is survived by his children, Pamela (Kim) Erickson of Grand Forks, Tom (Barbara) Winger of Grand Forks; brother, Donley (Carol) Winger of San Luis Obispo, CA; grandchildren, Christopher Erickson and Austin Winger; great-grandson, Henry Erickson and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Marjorie.

Funeral service with military honors: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Private Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks.
