Remembering Doris ‘Dot’ Benson
Doris “Dot” Benson, former head custodian at UND, died peacefully, Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Valley Senior Living with her family by her side.
Doris Jean Boushee was born March 19, 1940, in Emerado, N.D. to Ralph and Delphine (Dumond) Boushee. She grew up in East Grand Forks, Minn., where she attended school at Sacred Heart School and met her beloved John Paul Benson. The high school sweethearts were united in marriage on Oct. 25, 1958, at Sacred Heart. The two were lifelong companions and were blessed with three children, Timothy John, Tamara Jean and Todd Joseph.
Dot worked at the Westward Ho before getting her dream job: Head Custodian at UND, where she adored working for Tom Clifford. After 25 hears of avid hard work, she was gifted an honorary plaque for outstanding service before she retired.
The true pride and joy of Dot were her six grandchildren. She spent her free time doing the things she loved most: baking, gardening, cleaning and being around her family. Those who knew Dot were happily welcomed in their home for fresh coffee, snacks and great company.
Loving family members who survive Dot include her children Tammy (Randy) Holder of Beulah, N.D. and Todd (LoRae) Benson of Grand Forks, N.D.; 5 grandchildren Nick (Teresa) Benson, Nicole (Ryan) Gartzke, Ryan (Amanda) Holder, Jacob Benson, and Emily Benson; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Boushee, Jr. of East Grand Forks, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, parents Ralph Sr. and Delphine Boushee, son TJ Benson, grandson Tyler Holder, and sisters June Gilleland, Helen Goetz, and brothers Robert, Edward, Keith, Kenneth, Tim and Doug Boushee.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:30, Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 3rd St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Service will be live-streamed on Dot’s page at www.dandahlfuneralhome.com.
Visitation: One hour prior to the Mass at Sacred Heart on Monday
Graveside Service: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks immediately following the Funeral Mass.
