University Band & One O’clock Jazz Ensemble to present ‘Sounds of the Season! A Holiday Concert’ on Dec. 1

The University of North Dakota University Band and One O’clock Jazz Ensemble will join forces to present “SOUNDS OF THE SEASON! A Holiday Concert” on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in the UND Union Ballroom and is free and open to the public.

The concert will also be livestreamed on the UND Music website.

The ensembles will perform unique settings of holiday favorites. The UND One O’clock Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Robert Brooks, will include arrangements of “Santa’s Limehouse Blues;” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas;” and Gordon Goodwin’s setting of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” in their program.

James Popejoy will conduct the University band performing “Celebrations for Christmas” and “Christmas Village,” both arranged by Randall Standridge; an arrangement of Prokofiev’s “Midnight Sleighride;” and Leroy Anderson’s classic “Sleigh Ride.”

Undergraduate conductor Brady Zimmerman with lead the band in “Three Noels,” arranged by Clare Grundman, while graduate conductor Juanita Caballero Casas will present Robert Longfield’s “Passacaglia on an Old English Carol.” The two ensembles will combine to close the program with performances of “Jing, Jing, Jingle,” and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
