{"id":108347,"date":"2025-09-30T16:21:52","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T21:21:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/uletter\/?p=108347"},"modified":"2025-09-30T16:21:52","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T21:21:52","slug":"und-signs-5-million-research-partnership-with-faa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/uletter\/2025\/09\/und-signs-5-million-research-partnership-with-faa\/","title":{"rendered":"UND signs $5 million research partnership with FAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, UND and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) signed an agreement to boost aeromedical research on campus \u2013 an agreement both parties say will enhance aviation safety.<\/p>\n<p>The five-year agreement, which provides up to $5 million in funding, will assign an FAA research medical officer to UND, who will assist with the execution and planning of research activities. This is the first time the FAA has embedded a medical researcher into a university, which helps highlight the uniqueness of this partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Joining UND President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campus.und.edu\/directory\/andrew.armacost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Andy Armacost<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for the ceremony \u2014 held at UND\u2019s Carnegie Hall \u2014 was Dr.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/about\/office_org\/headquarters_offices\/avs\/offices\/aam\/officials\/antunano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Melchor Antu\u00f1ano<\/strong><\/a>, director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/about\/office_org\/headquarters_offices\/avs\/offices\/aam\/cami\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>FAA\u2019s Civil Aerospace Medical Institute<\/strong><\/a>. Antu\u00f1ano\u2019s department will oversee the FAA\u2019s role in the partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Armacost said that robust collaboration between the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/med.und.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>School of Medicine &amp; Health Sciences<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aero.und.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>John D.
