Erica Sul, environmental compliance manager for UND\u2019s Office of Safety, was recently named for the North Dakota Safety Council\u2019s Emerging Safety Champion award.<\/p>\n

This award is presented annually at the NDSC\u2019s Safety and Health Awards in Bismarck, recognizing safety professionals who have been on the job for less than five years but have demonstrated a noticeable commitment to the safety culture of their organization, according to NDSC.<\/p>\n

Sul joined the Office of Safety at UND as part of the team\u2019s fire program and was later promoted to environmental compliance manager.<\/p>\n

Marcus Simpson, director of the Office of Safety, praised her effectiveness in improving both areas in a relatively short time at UND.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe accepted the challenge and excelled \u2014 getting the University back on track and creating a fully sustainable, top-tier program leading us into the future,\u201d Simpson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cErica is an excellent teacher and mentor to the student workers in our safety office while overseeing the environmental program, helping ensure the campus is compliant and protected.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a champion for environmental rights and has brought fresh ideas and approaches to campus for environmental sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sul is also a First Aid\/CPR trainer for UND, performing outreach to all service units on campus. And she\u2019s a dedicated volunteer in the broader community, including as a Girl Scout troop leader and certified police officer, Simpson said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Emerging Safety Champion Award, among several NDSC awards, will be presented at the Safety and Health Awards ceremony from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at the Municipal Country Club in Bismarck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
