Broadway and screen actor Cariani coming to UND

Public conversation and acting workshops set for May 1-2 at Burtness Theatre

John Cariani
John Cariani has been featured in Broadway plays, network television programs and films as well as being an accomplished playwright. His most well-known work for stage is “Almost, Maine” – one of the most widely produced plays in America in the past decade.

Broadway stage and screen actor John Cariani will be starring in a series of acting workshop at UND on May 1-2, designed to give the public and inside look at the entertainment industry.

The UND Theatre Arts Department also will play host to “A Conversation with John Cariani,” at 7:30 p.m., May 1 in Burtness Theatre. Admission for this event is free and open to the public.

According to Jeff Weatherly, interim chair of the Theatre Arts, Cariani will be visiting UND from his home in New York City. In addition to the holding acting workshops for the public, he will take time to answer questions from the public during his conversation at Burtness Theatre.

“This is a unique opportunity to learn about inner workings of the entertainment industry firsthand,” Weatherly said. “Mr. Cariani is a seasoned actor, having starred in Something Rotten and Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. He has also had an active film and television career, with regular appearances on Law and Order and film appearances alongside greats such as Christopher Walken.”

Other films and TV shows to his credit include “Showtime” with Eddie Murphy and Robert DeNiro, “Homeland,” “The Good Wife” and “The Black List.”

An equally accomplished playwright, he has numerous published works, with his most well-known being Almost, Maine – one of the most widely produced plays in America in the past decade, Weatherly said.
