Tom DiLorenzo, University of North Dakota Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, informed students, faculty and staff of the School of Law late last week that the search for the next Dean has shifted to internal candidates within the law school.

The announcement follows a national search for a new dean that ended without a successful match.

Anyone can offer nominations to the Provost. He then will contact nominees to see if they would like to formally apply for the position. Those interested must include a vita with their applications to the Provost. The Provost will begin accepting applications immediately, with interviews for potential candidates beginning as early as next week.

After interviews, DiLorenzo plans to meet with the Law School faculty before an announcement is made.

“President Kennedy and I are both fully committed to UND’s Law School being a valuable source of legal talent for the state and a point of pride for the University,” DiLorenzo said.  “We look forward to working with the new internal Dean on cementing its strength and exploring innovative ideas to magnify its impact.”

Last Friday, around 50 members of the UND Law School community, including students, faculty and staff, were informed of the Provost’s plans.

Bradley Myers, The Randy H. Lee Professor of Law at UND, has been serving as Interim Dean of the Law School.
