UND Provost Eric Link has selected Maridee D. Shogren as the interim dean for the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines. Shogren has worked within the College for 13 years and currently holds the rank of clinical professor.

“Interim Dean Maridee Shogren has the experience and vision to provide exceptional leadership in the College,” Link said. “The College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines provides key academic programs that make a positive impact on the lives of North Dakota citizens, and under Dr. Shogren’s leadership the College will continue its longstanding tradition of preparing both undergraduate and graduate students for careers across the fields of nursing, social work, and nutrition & dietetics.”

“We had a slate of outstanding nominees for the position of Interim Dean within the college, and the faculty and staff of the college were actively engaged in the process from the outset,” Link continued. “There was a great deal of dedication and interest among the faculty and staff of the college to name a successful interim dean, and the pool of candidates the college put forward was a true testament to the commitment of faculty throughout the college to the success of the college and its students.”

During her time as the interim dean Shogren’s immediate primary objectives will be to:

  • Prepare the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) for a smooth transition of leadership to a new long-term dean.
  • Support nursing, social work, and nutrition & dietetics chairs, faculty, and staff to successfully sustain the work of the College.
  • Encourage CNPD faculty to explore efforts for interprofessional clinical and research collaboration.
  • Assure that all students in the College are recognized, heard, and supported through their academic progression.
  • Work with the director of development for the CNPD to improve community and alumni relations.

“I am incredibly pleased to serve as the Interim Dean for the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines,” Shogren said. “We are a college rich with experienced administrators, faculty, and staff, and I am looking forward to collaborating with all three departments as we look to the future.”

Shogren will assume the interim dean position on Monday, Feb. 7, and will serve until the permanent dean is named and in place. The CNPD Dean Search Committee is being assisted by Harris Search Associates. It is anticipated that the next permanent dean will begin serving by July 1, 2022.
