The french fries were back on Thursday as the World’s Largest French Fry Feed kicked off Potato Bowl USA Week, a late summer highlight in Grand Forks for more than 50 years.

After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic (and some years of cancellations thanks to poor weather), University Park last week was once again the place to get free french fries, courtesy of the J. R. Simplot Co. Then on Saturday came the Potato Bowl Parade, and after that, the Potato Bowl USA football game, in which the UND Fighting Hawks defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers, 29-27.

The Grand Forks Herald reported that about 130 floats were in the parade. Ryan Scott, chairman of the Potato Bowl Parade, told the Herald that this was on par with pre-COVID parades, including 2021, when there were 108 entrants.
