Armacost welcomes guests who share details about upcoming DEI conference, other events

President Armacost is joined by two guests for this week’s video message to the UND community.

Tamba-Kuii Bailey, special assistant to the president for diversity & inclusion, answers a few questions about UND’s upcoming, first-ever DEI conference (which will be happening Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 5-6), and encourages the entire campus to attend.

The conference is titled “The Future is Now: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Higher Education and Beyond.” It’s meant to bring all University members and stakeholders together to talk about challenges and best practices around diversity, equity and inclusion in connection with teaching, learning and research.

Registration is free for UND students, faculty and staff, and more information is available at UND.edu/DEIconference. Lunch will be provided on both days, Bailey adds.

Also joining Armacost and Bailey is Stella Canales, a business management major who worked with a group of peers to establish the Unidos Hispanic and Latino Association at UND. She talks about her journey to UND as well as her aspirations for one of UND’s newest student groups. More information can be found through Student Diversity & Inclusion, as well as on the group’s Instagram page, @Unidos.UND.

Armacost also draws attention to future activities on campus, including Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, Oct. 10, and the Pride Center’s celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month and Coming Out Day on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Armacost then encourages everyone to keep Iranian students, faculty and staff in their thoughts as civil unrest continues across Iran, creating uncertainty as to the safety of family and friends living there.
