UND’s new VP for Student Affairs talks move to North Dakota, getting to know campus and early goals

This week, President Andy Armacost is joined in his latest video address by Art Malloy, UND’s new vice president for Student Affairs.

Malloy joined the University’s leadership team in early January, taking over from Beth Hellwig, who had served as vice president in an interim capacity since October 2021.

Malloy, who moved to North Dakota from North Carolina, says his predecessor did a “great job” of helping him prepare for leading the Division of Student Affairs. About moving to North Dakota during the winter, Malloy says, people on campus have been very helpful with their advice.

Armacost asks Malloy what he’s observed of UND early on, about his career leading up to UND and what Malloy’s goals are for his first months on the job.

Malloy says he’s studying UND’s new strategic plan with his team with a goal of incorporating it into their own planning. He’s also keen on emphasizing student wellness, well-being and leadership opportunities for all.

Malloy is looking forward to collaborating with colleagues across campus to make sure students graduate with the leadership experience and career readiness that they need.
