In latest video message, President Armacost speaks with UND’s new vice provost for faculty affairs

In today’s video message to campus, President Armacost hosts a chat with Randi Tanglen, UND’s new vice provost for faculty affairs.

Tanglen, who has been on the job for two months, is originally from Sidney, Mont., a town less than 10 miles from North Dakota’s border.

Before coming to UND, Tanglen served as executive director of Humanities Montana, the nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities in the state. She also taught English for 12 years at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and directed its faculty development center.

Armacost asks Tanglen about what the transition to UND has been like and what she’s learned about her new home of Grand Forks.

Tanglen says she wakes up every day with a mission to make UND a great place for faculty, and that each day has presented something different as she meets people from all Colleges and departments and attends panels, lectures and events on campus.

Armacost then brings up the fact that March is Women’s History Month, to which Tanglen makes some literary recommendations, drawing upon her experiences teaching American women’s literature and literary history.

This month is a chance for the campus community to recognize important women in history and the contributions that women at UND have made and continue to make every day, Armacost says.
