VIDEO: ‘Happy Summer’ from President Armacost

Latest message from UND’s president reflects on commencement, tenure and summer at UND

President Andrew Armacost wishes all a “Happy Summer” in his latest video message.

Two weeks out from UND’s commencement ceremonies, Armacost reflects on the inspiring message delivered by North Dakota Poet Laureate Denise Lajimodiere during her keynote speech.

Armacost also remarks on a recent National Science Foundation grant awarded to Julia Zhao, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, which will advance nanomaterials research in the treatment of cancer. The ability for professors to pursue knowledge and new frontiers of technology speaks to the value of tenure as it relates to discovery and the other goals of UND’s strategic plan, Armacost says.

As a variety of youth camps are held on campus throughout the summer, Armacost asks everyone to show visitors the welcoming spirit of UND. Young people coming to campus are potentially future UND students, so please let them know what a wonderful community we have, he adds.

And if you’re walking around campus, make way for ducklings and goslings, the president notes. Many ducks and geese frequenting the English Coulee now have young ones in tow. How quickly they grow and walk and take to the water – and what a fitting metaphor that is for what we do at UND, Armacost says.
