President Armacost and Chelsea Mellenthin, director of Career Engagement, talk about what’s ahead for UND’s new Experiential Learning Center
President Andrew Armacost wishes Happy New Year to the UND community in his first video message of 2024, and he’s joined by Chelsea Mellenthin, director of Career Engagement for Student Academic Services & Career Engagement.
Armacost and Mellenthin are seated in UND’s new Experiential Learning Center, located on the first floor of McCannel Hall. The Experiential Learning Center is where students can find departments such as Career Services, Study Abroad and Undergraduate Research.
The goal for the center, which opened this past fall, is to provide students with equitable access to experiential learning opportunities, Mellenthin says. Student success, both in academics and career readiness, is central to her team’s mission.
Also located in the center is a Career Closet from which students can take as many as three items per semester to wear or use for career fairs, interviews and other professional engagements. Donations can be made to the center between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Armacost and Mellenthin talk about what’s ahead for the center, including spreading awareness of its services and enhancing UND’s partnerships — both on and off campus — when it comes to student success before and after graduation.

Armacost closes the video with a reminder that Monday, Jan. 15, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. UND’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion will be hosting its annual MLK Day Brunch and Day of Service starting at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. This year’s event is introducing a service project open to students, faculty and staff that will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 16-18, in the Memorial Union, Suite 201.
Also coming up are two opportunities for the University community to provide feedback on the Assurance Argument for UND’s Reaffirmation of Accreditation, which occurs every 10 years on behalf of the Higher Learning Commission. The sessions will be hosted by UND’s HLC Committee on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m., and on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., in the Memorial Union’s Small Ballroom.
At both sessions, attendees will be able to read copies of the Assurance Argument and provide feedback to its contributors — a vital step of the review process before the document is sent to the HLC in March. Feedback also can be provided online at UND.edu/HLC.
