Feast of Nations offers ‘Kaleidoscope of Cultures’

UND photographers capture 62nd Annual Feast of Nations festivities

Nearly 1,000 people were on hand for the annual Feast of Nations on March 23, just about filling the 100 tables seating 10 people each at the Alerus Center and continuing a tradition that dates back to 1962.

That’s when the Feast of Nations began as “a social function for international students,” the Grand Forks Herald has reported. The celebration started off initially as “a small event held at the Civic Center in downtown Grand Forks,” and “for many years, the international students and community volunteers prepared and served food, and put on the entertainment.”

That was then. This is now:

Besides being the Alerus Center’s largest banquet event of the year, Feast of Nations also is a “Kaleidoscope of Cultures,” as the theme of this year’s event declared. A full year in the making, and with planning already having begun for next year’s event, the 62nd Annual Feast of Nations featured performances from 15 groups — including Bollywood Breakout, Korean Culture Club and the All Star Afro Dancers — as well as an after-hours party hosted by DJ Eazy-B.

In today’s issue, UND Today is proud to present a selection of photos from the event, all of them taken by the University’s photography team. Feast of Nations organizers also would like to take this opportunity to thank the event’s sponsors — UND, Livewire, the University’s Student Organization Funding Agency or SOFA, Visit Greater Grand Forks, Jalen Nicole Floral, Folklorama Talent and the city of Grand Forks.

In addition, the following people and groups deserve thanks for their support and promotion of the International Organization and this year’s 62nd Annual Feast of Nations: Eller Bonifacio Designs, the Alerus Center and UND’s Chester Fritz Auditorium; Division of Marketing & Communications; Ceremonies and University Events; Print Center; Facilities Management; and International Center.

Enjoy!
