Leader in action: answering the call
From firefighting to flight training, Ali Moses charts a course toward a career in emergency aviation
For most college students, balancing classes, work and extracurriculars is enough to fill a schedule. For Ali Moses, college also meant responding to fire calls, serving in the North Dakota Army National Guard, mentoring younger aviation students and completing flight training — all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Moses, of Thompson, N.D., graduated from UND this spring with a degree in helicopter operations and a specialization in safety. The common thread running through her many commitments is service.
Moses joined the Thompson Volunteer Fire Department at age 14, an experience that helped shape her career goals. After a helicopter discovery flight at UND while she was in high school, she began to see how aviation could become part of that future.
At UND, Moses served as president and later vice president of the UND Helicopter Association, mentored younger aviation students and helped fellow students with flight training through a certified flight instructor tutor lab. She also served as an aerospace student ambassador while continuing her work with the fire department and fulfilling her National Guard responsibilities.
Now a UND graduate, Moses plans to remain at the University as a flight instructor before pursuing helicopter tours in Alaska and, ultimately, a career as a medevac pilot — a path that brings together aviation, emergency response and her commitment to serving others.
