VIDEO: With construction on campus, stay safe
President Armacost and Marcus Simpson, director for Safety, discuss campus safety and construction areas as fall semester gets underway
Now that everyone is back on campus for the fall semester, President Andrew Armacost hosts Marcus Simpson for a chat about safety in his latest video message.
Simpson serves as director for the Office of Safety at UND.
“There’s so much activity everywhere, cars driving,” Armacost says. “We have to be mindful of our personal safety and the safety of the places in which we live and work.”
Top of mind for Simpson is the construction site at 42nd Street and DeMers Avenue. He asks the campus community to stay away from that area and to not trespass under any circumstances.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has informed UND that citations will be given to those who enter unlawfully, as it’s a dangerous, complex worksite.
For home football games, buses will take people from the Wilkerson Complex to the Alerus Center starting three hours before the game and later from the fourth quarter until everyone has left the arena, Simpson says.
“How do you get to the football game?” Armacost asks.
“Take the shuttle from Wilkerson,” Simpson answers.
The other site of concern is where the new STEM Complex is being built, close to Columbia Road. One side of the road is cut off, Simpson remarks, so pedestrians should pay attention to barricades when trying to cross.

Following the recording session, Simpson presented President Armacost with the UND Office of Safety “June Safety Award” for the president’s continued efforts to promote health and safety across campus.
