Student Body President and Vice President Mason Thingvold and Kaleb Martin meet with President Armacost to talk about their work and what’s ahead

From President Andrew Armacost and UND’s Student Government leaders: Happy Homecoming Week!

For this week’s video, Student Body President and Vice President Mason Thingvold and Kaleb Martin join Armacost to talk about the work they’ve done so far and what they’ll focus on for the remainder of their term.

Martin says their early work involved community outreach to create more student discounts at local businesses and partner with organizations to raise awareness and promote volunteer opportunities.

UND Student Government also recently launched a new voucher program for Uber in Grand Forks, creating hundreds of $10 vouchers for students to use.

Both Thingvold and Martin talk about the importance of transparency and accessibility in student government, saying they’re regularly updating a UND Student Government LinkedIn page, posting senate reports and recording a new podcast.

They’ve also expanded the executive team and Student Senate appointments to create more leadership opportunities for students.

Thingvold says they want to work toward consolidating UND’s mobile resources into one app; create more internship opportunities on campus; and develop a turf dome on campus to host recreational student organizations and Athletics activities.

Asked for a student discount recommendation, Armacost gives a shout out to the UND Bookstore as well as University Ave Pizza in the Memorial Union for their “world’s best” three-meat pizza.
