Most UND undergraduates take classes in Merrifield Hall, the building that dominates the west side of the Campus Quad. When it was built in 1929, Merrifield Hall was the largest classroom building in the state, and even today it is UND’s largest collection of general classrooms with the highest utilization rates.

That’s why Merrifield Hall has been sorely missed as a classroom and meeting space, during the many months when the building was closed for its extensive renovation.

And that’s why the reopening of Merrifield Hall for spring semester classes is such a big and welcome event on campus.

In celebration of this event, UND photographers and videographers have put together an extended photo and video feature that tracks the history of Merrifield Hall over the decades, and shows the exceptional renovations that have taken place in recent months.
