{"id":37987,"date":"2024-09-10T16:02:15","date_gmt":"2024-09-10T21:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/?p=37987"},"modified":"2024-09-11T15:51:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T20:51:57","slug":"on-campus-next-week-a-conversation-executive-talking-about-the-conversation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/2024\/09\/on-campus-next-week-a-conversation-executive-talking-about-the-conversation\/","title":{"rendered":"On campus next week: A Conversation executive, talking about The Conversation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hannah Sussman, University Relations manager for The Conversation, will visit UND to talk with scholars Sept. 17-18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26798\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/09\/The-Conversation-graphic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/09\/The-Conversation-graphic.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/09\/The-Conversation-graphic-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/09\/The-Conversation-graphic-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>Along with about 80 other universities, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/und-today\/2022\/09\/introducing-the-conversation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UND has partnered<\/a><\/strong> with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/us\">The Conversation<\/a><\/strong>, a nonprofit news service dedicated to \u201cunlocking the knowledge of experts for the public good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the University, this partnership is considered a \u201cwin-win-win.\u201d That\u2019s because it\u2019s proving to be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Good for The Conversation and the public it serves, who benefit from UND scholars\u2019 expertise on health, K-12 education, philosophy, rural America, energy, national security and dozens of other topics.<\/li>\n<li>Good for the UND scholar\/authors, many of whom report (in the wake of their Conversation article) increased citations for their scholarly work, contacts by colleagues from around the country and requests by media for interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Good for the University, which has seen national mentions of UND scholars and scholarship go up dramatically as the University\u2019s Conversation articles rapidly approach 1 million reads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With that in mind, UND has invited a Conversation executive \u2014 Hannah Sussman, manager of University Relations for the organization \u2014 to come to campus next week, with the aim of meeting with UND scholars who\u2019d like to learn more.<\/p>\n<p>Are you a UND faculty member or graduate student who\u2019s interested in getting published by The Conversation? Then please feel free to attend one of the sessions below, all of which \u2014 despite being labeled as \u201cprimarily for\u201d certain fields \u2014 are open to scholars in any discipline.<\/p>\n<h2>Refine your \u2018pitch\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>At most of the sessions, Sussman will give a short presentation about The Conversation; talk with one or more UND authors who\u2019ve been published by The Conversation, as well as with an editor or two from The Conversation, who\u2019ll be available via Zoom in many of the sessions; and open the floor (including the authors and editors) to questions.<\/p>\n<p>During the final session (in the Memorial Union, Room 245, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 18), Sussman will be available for short consultations with individual scholars. If you\u2019re a faculty member or grad student with a research interest you\u2019d like to write about, but aren\u2019t quite sure how to refine that idea into a \u201cpitch\u201d for a Conversation article, Sussman will be happy to talk at this session with you.<\/p>\n<p>The dates, times and locations of the sessions are below.
