Message from Student Finance
Dear UND Faculty,
Thank you so much for your assistance with Student Financial Aid requests. We would like to remind you of the importance of using the correct code when grading a student with an F. Incorrect coding of an F grade can lead to student financial aid being taken away from a student when it should not be. Here are the different codes and explanations.
F: These students attend class all semester and sit for the final, just didn’t pass the course due to not grasping the course objectives/content.
FN: If a student falls into any of the examples, they are an FN and we need a date that they last participated. Logging in is NOT considered active participation.
- · Physically attending a class where there is an opportunity for direct interaction between the instructor and students. (FN)
- · Student submission of an exam or academic assignment (FN)
- · Documented student participation in an interactive tutorial or computer-assisted instruction (FN)
- · A posting by the student showing the student’s participation in an online study group that is assigned by the institution. (FN)
- · A posting by the student in a discussion forum showing the student’s participation in an online discussion about academic matters. (FN)
- · An e-mail from the student or other documentation showing that the student-initiated contact with a faculty member to ask a question about the academic subject studied in the course. Please note this does not include questions regarding technical issues, i.e. how to access the course material in Blackboard. (FN)
- · Logging into an online class without active participation is NOT considered attendance (if the students only “activity” was logging in. The student would be an FNN).
FNN: If the student doesn’t meet any of the examples above, it would be an FNN. (Ex. Student never attended, never turned in an assignment, etc.)
Thanks so much.
