Research Experience for Undergraduates pilot program applications due Feb. 2

The North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (ND EPSCoR) announces a new pilot program called Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). The program provides the opportunity to work in the Center for Regional Climate Studies (CRCS) or the Center for Sustainable Materials Science (CSMS) alongside faculty on cutting-edge research projects in chemistry, materials science, engineering, hydrology, agribusiness and applied economics, and atmospheric sciences, while learning scientific research and communication skills.

The program is primarily geared toward undergraduate students in the above mentioned STEM disciplines during the award period of June 1, 2016 through May 31, 2017. Students must be enrolled at North Dakota State University, University of North Dakota, one of the five tribal colleges located in North Dakota, or one of four North Dakota University System primarily undergraduate Institutions located in Dickinson, Mayville, Minot or Valley City. For additional selection criteria, application forms and additional information, please visit http://www.ndepscor.nodak.edu/programs/soar.htm.

Applications are due by noon Feb. 2, 2016. Students selected for the program receive a $5,000 stipend and up to $2,000 for summer housing. The research project must total 200 hours over the summer, during the academic year, or a combination of the two.

North Dakota EPSCoR is a federally and state funded program designed to improve the ability of university researchers to compete more effectively for federal, regional and private research grants in the sciences, engineering and mathematics.
