Maria Saucedeo and Allison Peyton receive U-Shine Awards

Staff Senate is pleased to announce the monthly U-Shine Award.

October’s U-Shine Award recipient is Maria Saucedo, Building Services Technician, Facilities Management. She was nominated by Gayann Akset. The nomination stated:

In September, someone in the building Maria works in had a medical emergency. The person alerted Maria that he needed to sit down. Maria could see that he was not himself and proceeded to help him sit down and make sure he was safe. Maria informed her supervisor that something was wrong and an ambulance was called. At this point others had arrived and they offered the gentleman orange juice and were all concerned for him. Maria did the right thing by helping the gentleman get the care he needed immediately. Maria is patient, kind and will always help anyone. As her supervisor, I am very proud of her for staying calm in a moment of crisis and I know her co-workers feel the same.

November’s U-Shine Award recipient is Allison Peyton, Director of Payment Services, Procurement and Payment Services. She was nominated by Jennifer Lunde. The nomination stated:

I am nominating Allison because she is an excellent boss. She genuinely cares and knows family comes first. When my family was struck with tragedy, I had to call Allison and tell her I was going to have to take some time off from work. She told me to not worry about work. In fact, she said, “Jennifer, I am your rock. If you need help with anything I will be here for you.” When your family is dealing with tragedy you don’t want to have to feel guilty about not being at work and taking time off. I feel I was able to deal with the tragedy better and more quickly because I knew that my boss supported me and genuinely cared about me. In fact, there were many days I could have just stayed home in bed feeling sorry for myself but her support pushed me to keep going because I didn’t want to disappoint her after she was so good to me!

The U-Shine Award is presented monthly to a UND staff member who goes out of his or her way to make UND a better place.
