Cara Halgren has been named Vice President for Student Affairs and Diversity at the University of North Dakota. Halgren has served in an interim capacity in that position since May 17, 2017.

“I am delighted to announce that after consulting with a wide range of individuals, I have appointed Cara Halgren permanently to the position she has already been fulfilling so capably for the past half year,” said UND President Mark Kennedy.

Kennedy made the decision based on the recommendation of the Executive Council and after a review of Halgren’s performance based on interviews with key Student Affairs staff members and off-campus individuals who work closely with Halgren.

Prior to May 17, Halgren had served as associate vice president/dean of students. The Elk River, Minn., native, joined UND in 2006 as associate dean of student life and director of judicial affairs and crisis programs. Prior to her UND career, Halgren served as director of the Office of Campus Life and other positions at the University of St. Thomas. She was a residence hall director at Bemidji State University and was earlier the director of residence life at Salem-Teikyo University in West Virginia.

Halgren earned her Ed.D. degree from the University of St. Thomas in 2006, her M.S. in Educational Leadership from Troy University in 1994, and her undergraduate degree in English from UND in 1989.
