FAQs about the bike share stations

·         How does it work?

o   Download the Pace Bike Share App from either the Apple App Store or through Google Play, load a payment method within the app, use the app to locate and select a bike, unlock your selected bike, enjoy the ride and relock the bike when you’re done! IT’S THAT EASY!

·         Can I ride the bike off campus?

o   There are bike share stations available throughout Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, including six stations on UND’s campus. With this particular program you may end your ride any place you would like, although additional charges may occur if the bike is not returned to a designated bike share station.

·         Does it cost money?

o   There is a small charge, although for students, faculty and staff this cost is at a reduced rate. The cost is directly related to the length of your ride. There is also a convenient annual membership option available.

·         Who can use it?

o   Anyone over the age of 18 may utilize the program.

·         What are the benefits of using it?

o   Students may have all of the benefits of utilizing a bike, without the hassle of bringing a bike from home.

o   Students, faculty and staff can utilize a less congested parking lot.

o   It provides an activity for friends, family and other visitors to experience over 20 miles of scenic multipurpose trails.

o   Saves gas, reducing the carbon footprint by riding a bike instead of using a car.

o   Someone else is responsible for maintenance and storage of the bikes.

o   Numerous health benefits associated with riding bikes.

·         How did UND get this program?

o   This program is part of a Grand Forks and East Grand Forks city wide initiative, in which UND Student Government and UND Parking and Transportation were brought onto the committee. The campus contributed to the initiative through funding from a UND Student Senate Bill which was matched by funds from UND Parking and Transportation.

·         What happens to the bikes in the winter?

o   The bikes will be collected and stored during the winter months.

·         Who does the maintenance?

o   The bike share vendor will have dedicated bike technicians to perform the maintenance needed.

·         What if all the bikes end up at one location?

o   The bike share vendor will be responsible to rebalance the bikes periodically to assist with bike availability at all the stations.

·         How many bikes will there be city wide?

o   To start, there is enough funding for 75 bikes city wide, with 17 bike rack stations. This may increase as more sponsors contribute to the program and the number of users increases. This program is reliant on the sponsors more than the revenue generated through the users, which keeps the costs low and potentially provides a more sustainable program.

·         Where will you find a bike station on UND’s campus?

o   Wilkerson, Wellness Center, Med School, Hyslop, East side of Odegard, and the Academic Quad which will initially be located next to the Camp Depression monument until the new Memorial Union is completed.
