UND Band and Wind Ensemble hold joint concert Nov. 17

The University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble and University Band, conducted by James Popejoy, will present a combined concert on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. Due to the pandemic, a live audience will not be allowed for this performance. The concert will be live-streamed and can be found on the UND Music Department website:.

The University Band will open the concert with Dennis Eveland’s Fanfare for a New Generation. They will follow with performances of Regenesis: Song of the Planet by John Higgins; Claude T. Smith’s Concert Variations; and Winter Holiday, arranged by James Swearingen. Undergraduate conductor Gabrielle Halliday will lead the band in A Percy Grainger Suite, arranged by Frank Erickson.

 After opening their portion of the concert with Julius Fucik’s “Grande Marcia Italiana” – Florentiner, the Wind Ensemble will perform the first movement of one of the earliest original symphonies written for band in 1950, Russian composer Boris Kozhevnikov’s Symphony No. 3, “Slavyanskaya.” Also included in their program will be Vincent Persichetti’s Pageant, as well as Symphonic Dances from Clifton Williams. They will close the concert with Leroy Anderson’s beloved Sleigh Ride!
