UND pauses administration of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine

Based on recommendations from CDC, UND has voluntarily paused administration of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine, along with the City of Grand Forks, Grand Forks Public Health and Altru.

Students who have appointments to receive the vaccine at UND Student Health Services will be contacted about the option to receive the two-dose Pfizer vaccine instead. Student Health will work with students to schedule their first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

The pause is out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control. As of April 12, more than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine. While this review is conducted, Johnson & Johnson vaccine administration in Grand Forks will pause.

UND continues to work closely with Grand Forks Public Health and Altru, and follow North Dakota Department of Health recommendations and guidance. For more information, visit the Grand Forks COVID-19 vaccine page.

We will share more information as it becomes available.
