Celebrating Sociology and Student Appreciation

The Department of Sociology held its annual “Celebrating Sociology and Student Appreciation” event last May! Around 15 students, faculty, and staff joined a fun time that blended academic recognition, Alpha Kappa Delta induction, and laughs from a trivia game.

Department Chair Krista Lynn Minnotte offered some introductory words, followed by a keynote presentation by Elizabeth Legerski. Daniel Bartholomay recognized sociology students and Joseph Jochman inducted new members into UND’s chapter of AKD.

Justin Berg presented the Ina Montgomery Scholarship to Katherine Blackmun (Ina Montgomery Scholarship) and the Dr. John M. Gillette Scholarship to Kayleigh Buchanan and Allie Berg. These awards honor the legacies of Ina Montgomery ’31 and Department founder Dr. John M. Gillette.

Gabe Kilzer kept the energy high with trivia, producing some fun guesses on which faculty member was tallest. Winners walked away with UND socks, picture frames, and cool sociology swag. Allyssa Baumbach closed out the formal program with a look back at the year’s achievements, followed by everyone enjoying refreshments and social time. A big thank you to Linden Vimislik, the department’s office manager, and everyone else who made this celebratory event a success!
