Success Story: The Wellness Way

The Wellness Way – Fargo, 2025

FARGO – When Zach and Monica Landry began planning for their business, The Wellness Way, in October 2024. They weren’t just starting a chiropractic and holistic wellness practice; they were looking to answer a growing need in their community. With their passion for health and wellness, they were determined to offer an alternative approach to healthcare that emphasized patient empowerment and natural healing. And in February 2025, they officially opened their doors to do just that.

Zach and Monica, both graduates with chiropractic degrees, were drawn to the idea of starting a business in Fargo, despite not being originally from North Dakota. They had long admired the entrepreneurial spirit of the area and saw it as an ideal location to launch their business, given the state’s reputation for being small business-friendly and more affordable than larger metro areas. While their vision was clear, their journey was not without its challenges.

Before starting their venture, both gained experience working in chiropractic offices, Zach through a year-long internship, and they each grew up in families that owned businesses. Despite this, the couple faced hurdles with the complexities of business management, particularly with managing finances and navigating legal requirements. That’s when they reached out to the North Dakota Small Business Development Center (ND SBDC) for support.

Their advisor, Chris Erwin, played a key role in helping the Landrys turn their dream into reality. Monica and Zach were initially unsure of the specific direction they should take, but after connecting with Chris, they felt confident about their next steps. “After reaching out to Chris, we knew he could help us get on track,” Monica says. The advising sessions provided more than just basic information; they were an essential part of organizing the business and setting it up properly from the start.

Chris helped them navigate the intricacies of establishing a PLLC (Professional Limited Liability Company) without the need for a lawyer, which saved them significant legal costs. He also worked with them on developing a business plan and creating financial projections, providing tools that helped them stay organized and focused on their goals. This guidance opened new networking opportunities, which have played a key role in their continued growth.

Though still in the early stages of their business, the Landrys are already planning for expansion and anticipate hiring another staff member in the coming months as they continue to grow and develop their practice. Their commitment to offering affordable, holistic healthcare in Fargo has been met with enthusiastic support from the community. “Everyone in Fargo feels like they want to help and support each other,” says Zach. “We love that.”

Zach and Monica’s journey reflects a practical blend of hard work and community support. Along the way, they’ve come to appreciate the importance of sound financial guidance and a strong business foundation. As their business grows, they aim to encourage other aspiring entrepreneurs to take the first step. Their takeaway: “Keep your nose to the grindstone!”
