UPDATE: Signal repairs to close east intersection of University Avenue and North 42nd Street starting Oct. 9

DELAYED: Oct. 9 closure of University Avenue and North 42nd Street

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, a UND Notification was issued that included information about a closure starting Monday, Oct. 9, involving the eastern intersection between University Avenue and North 42nd Street.

This project has been delayed due to ongoing railroad work at the intersection of 6th Avenue North and North 42nd Street.

The University has been informed that the signal repair project at the intersection of University Avenue and North 42nd Street can proceed once the 6th Avenue North intersection is reopened.

Once a new start date has been chosen for the project, an updated notification will be sent with dates and traffic information.

The following was the original post, based on a campus-wide notification sent Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Starting Monday, Oct. 9, the eastern intersection between University Avenue and North 42nd Street will be closed for approximately three weeks.

The closure will allow for the City of Grand Forks to refurbish traffic signals in the area.

During construction, the remainder of the intersection will become a three-way stop to allow for pedestrians to safely cross North 42nd Street.

A detour route has been established for westbound traffic on University Avenue. Signage will direct vehicles to turn north on Stanford Road, then west on 6th Avenue to reach North 42nd Street. From there, traffic can go south to get back to University Avenue.

Localized traffic will be able to drive between Stanford Road and North 42nd Street to access campus buildings and UND housing, but there will be no exit onto North 42nd Street from University Avenue during the closure.

The image below shows the detour route.
