CEM Faculty: CEM Teaching Council Summer Teaching Development Program

For College of Engineering & Mines Faculty:

A summer stipend of $1000 will be available to participate in the CEM Teaching Council Summer Teaching Development Program for up to 12 individuals. The focus this summer is student engagement for campus and online students. Applications are due by Friday May 10.

Program details and requirements

  1. Complete three asynchronous courses:
    1. Best Practices in Online Teaching: a digital badge is awarded with the successful completion of the course. (estimated 3-4 hours)
    2. Innovative and Engaging Teaching in STEM: a digital badge is awarded with the successful completion of the course. (estimated 3-4 hours)
    3. Creating a Quality Course Map: a digital badge is awarded with the successful completion of the course. (estimated 3-4 hours)
  2. Attend a minimum of four, 3-hour interactive working sessions. At least two sessions must be attended in-person. Multiple sessions will be scheduled where the dates and times will be chosen to align with the participants’ schedules, as best as possible. Takeaways from these synchronous sessions include:
    1. A completed high quality course map for a minimum of one course. This will make sure that all activities, assessments, learning materials, etc. align with course and module outcomes, which will align with program and college outcomes.
    2. An innovative and engaging teaching experience that will be used in the classroom. Peer review will be used to share comments and suggestions on each other’s work.
    3. Other areas of interest identified by the participants.

The requirements for payment are to complete the above items and submit the appropriate digital badges and any other documentation. All items must be completed by August 9, 2024 to receive payment. You may complete the course early, but no extensions will be granted, and no payments will be approved after the due date.

After the completion of the program, all participants will be required to participate in a panel discussion hosted by the CEM Teaching Council during the fall semester to be eligible for future CEM Teaching Council funding.

To apply, submit your application to the Teaching Council in care of william.semke@und.edu for review. The application is a brief summary including the course(s) affected, the number of students involved, and any topics of interest you would find helpful to include in the program. The selection of the participant will be made by the CEM Teaching Council with consultation with your chair, as needed. Applications are due by Friday, May 10.
