VIDEO: 2026 Spring Ring Ceremony
Students mark their next step as engineers and scientists while honoring 50 years of the Order of the Engineer
At the UND College of Engineering & Mines, the Ring Ceremony is more than a graduation milestone. It is a moment for students to reflect on the responsibility, purpose and promise of the fields they are preparing to enter.
This spring, UND students gathered with faculty, staff, family and friends to take part in the college’s time-honored Ring Ceremony, which honors future engineers and scientists as they commit themselves to ethical practice, service and lifelong professionalism.
The ceremony itself also marked a special milestone: the 50th anniversary of the Order of the Engineer on UND campus, a national tradition that invites engineers to publicly affirm their obligation to use their skills with integrity and for the benefit of society.
The event opened with UND President Andrew Armacost, who delivered a motivational keynote on what engineering truly means — not only as a profession, but as a way of thinking, problem-solving and serving others.
Dean Ryan Adams also reflected on the significance of the ceremony and the college’s pride in celebrating students as they prepare to take their next steps. Dr. Carson Running spoke about the history and meaning of the Order of the Engineer, while Dr. Emanuel Grant explained the Oath of the Scientist and the shared responsibility carried by those entering technical and scientific careers.
Throughout the ceremony, students took their oaths, received their rings, posed for memorable photos and celebrated with the people who helped support their journey. Together, those moments captured the spirit of the ceremony: a celebration of achievement, community and the meaningful work ahead.
