Upcoming Event: What can nutrition do for you?

National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Day is on March 8th. The day recognizes the food and nutrition experts who play a critical role in making the science of nutrition applicable to our daily living. RDNs and Licensed Nutritionists are in a unique position to impact a wide range of people through work in a variety of professions.

This year, in celebration, UND’s department of Nutrition & Dietetics is hosting “Food for Thought: What can nutrition do for you?”

Event Details

The half-day event will include student education booths, light refreshments, and an expert panel Q&A.
March 8th, 2023, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Panelist Q&A will be at 11:00 a.m.)
Memorial Union Ballroom (220)
2901 University Avenue Grand Forks, North Dakota 58202

Student Dietitians Provide Education

Attendees visiting the education booths will have the opportunity to see UND dietetic students in action as they learn something new about nutrition. “Students have put forth significant effort to prepare for the event, including selecting a topic they believe is relevant to the audience,” says Erin Lauckner, a Nutrition & Dietetics Clinical Instructor and one of the event organizers.

The student dietitians will be translating evidence-based information into something meaningful to people’s daily lives. Student presentation topics include hydration, frozen foods, mindful eating, canned fruit, MyPlate food groups, and protein.

Meet the Panelists

The department will host a Q&A with a panel of experts who have made a career out of nutrition. The panelists are all professionals with a wide variety of experiences in public health, research, food service, academics, and counseling. Lauckner says, “the work these professionals do reaches others in the UND and the greater Grand Forks communities in many different ways.”

She hopes that those attending will learn about the assistance a nutrition professional can provide or realize a nutrition class or program of study might be right for them. “Attendees will get a sense that the sky is the limit when it comes to working in the field of nutrition.”
