Faculty and students from the University of North Dakota College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) were well represented at the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) Annual Research Conference, held March 30 – April 2, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri.

From PhD and MS student research to faculty-led presentations, UND CNPD continues to advance nursing knowledge and improve patient care through meaningful, evidence-based research.

Several UND nursing students and faculty showcased their work through poster and podium presentations, highlighting a wide range of topics critical to the future of nursing:

  • Jacob Schultz presented “Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Scoping Review of Roles and Impact,” with advisement from Dr. Jana Zwilling.
  • Brandalyn Hassman presented “Discharge outcomes in clients with limited English proficiency who received interpretation services,” advised by Dr. Dawn Denny.
  • Nicole Martin presented “Limited access, increased risk: The impact of certified nurse midwife shortages on rural birth practices in North Dakota,” under the guidance of Dr. Rhoda Owens.
  • Karen Clementich presented “Exploring the relationship between professional identity and clinical reasoning in newly licensed nurses: A literature review,” also advised by Dr. Rhoda Owens.
  • Dr. Rhoda Owens and Dr. Jana Zwilling presented “The impact of a professional development program on nursing faculty’s perceptions of professional identity in nursing.”
  • Dr. Dawn Denny presented “Preoperative Delirium Risk Score is Related to Postoperative Subsyndromal Delirium in Older Adults.”

Participation in MNRS provides valuable opportunities for students and faculty to share their work, collaborate with peers, and contribute to ongoing conversations shaping the future of nursing.

UND CNPD is proud to see its researchers making an impact on both regional and national stages.
