Dr. David Flynn presented at the Minneapolis Federal Regional Economic Conditions Conference

University of North Dakota Economist David Flynn again has provided expert analysis on the economic conditions in North Dakota for the Federal Reserve of Minneapolis’ Regional Economic Conference, which took place on Jan. 9.
Flynn, a professor and Aarestad Endowed Chair in Economic and Finance, was among representatives from across the region participating in panel discussions and presentations about current economic conditions in the Ninth Federal Reserve District, which includes North Dakota. This was the fourth year in a row that Flynn has been invited to the Minneapolis Federal Reserve’s regional economic conference.

Flynn is a go-to expert on economic conditions and the unique economic and population history of North Dakota and the Northern Plains for local, regional and national media and governmental bodies. He began his career at the University of North Dakota in 2001.
Flynn received both his master’s (1998) and Ph.D. (2001) degrees from the Indiana University’s Department of Economics. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Boston College in 1995. Originally from Chicago, Flynn is a member of many professional organizations including the Population Association of America, the International Institute of Forecasters, and the American Statistical Association.
Flynn’s research interests include populations analyses, economic forecasting, economic history, and predictive analytics.
Current papers look at the mechanisms by which demographic and economic changes impact each other. He is also part of a team looking to create accurate population projections and forecasts for the state of North Dakota in light of the significant transformations due to the rise of the oil economy in the state. Additional research interests include looking at impacts, both economic and demographic, from natural disasters as well as topics in forecasting economic performance.
Flynn also serves on research teams funded by U.S. Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Energy.
