SMIF Students Excel at GAME XIII Forum

The Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) within the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration excelled and placed 5th (out of 33 teams) in the Undergraduate Core Portfolio Competition at the annual Quinnipiac University Global Asset Management Education (GAME) Forum and Portfolio Competition. The event took place on March 21-22, 2024, in New York, NY. Students in SMIF were guided by faculty member, Dr. Jay Choi, to participate in the GAME Forum.

At the event, current and future leaders of the financial services industry gather together to explore and discuss the topical issues our global investment environment faces. Over 100 speakers from more than 70 industry-leading financial services companies presented on the keynote panels, workshops, breakout sessions, and served as judges for the annual student-managed portfolio competition. This year, 130 faculty and over 1,100 students represented over 125 universities at the event. As the world’s largest student-run financial conference, this annual event is specifically designed as a space where industry leaders can have an open exchange of ideas to inspire students from around the globe to become the next generation of industry leaders.

Students in SMIF have a unique opportunity to actively manage and administer an investment portfolio with access to Bloomberg terminals. This hands-on experience in finance involves the management of an investment portfolio exceeding $2 million, as opposed to simulated exercises. It is noteworthy that this experiential learning initiative is exclusive to merely 30% of business schools nationwide.
