A Student Session with Palmer Luckey
On October 9th, the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration had the honor of hosting a student-focused event featuring Palmer Luckey at the Barry Auditorium.
Palmer Luckey
Palmer Luckey is best known as the founder of Oculus VR and a key figure in the development of modern virtual reality technology. In 2012, he launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Oculus Rift, which quickly gained massive attention and raised almost $2.5 million. His work caught the eye of industry veterans like John Carmack and resulted in Oculus VR being acquired by Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion. Luckey continued to work on VR at Facebook until his departure in 2017.
After leaving Oculus, Luckey founded Anduril Industries, a defense technology company that develops AI-powered surveillance systems, drones, and other defense-related technologies. Anduril has secured major contracts with the U.S. government, making Luckey a prominent figure in both the tech and defense sectors. Luckey’s interests and projects span far beyond virtual reality, reflecting his broader vision of technology’s role in shaping the future of defense and immersive experiences.

A Conversation with Palmer Luckey, Hosted by President Andrew Armacost and Senator Kevin Cramer
The “Rebooting of the Arsenal of Democracy” event was predominantly student-focused, featuring an introduction of Mr. Luckey by President Armacost. The majority of the session was dedicated to an interactive Q&A, where students engaged with the panel on topics such as the future of AI, Mr. Luckey’s vision for autonomy-driven defense technologies, and his guidance for current Nistler students.
