The Department of Political Science and Public Administration in the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration at the University of North Dakota recently recognized outstanding students in the state’s only accredited Master of Public Administration program during the 2026 Pi Alpha Alpha Induction Ceremony, held April 16 in the Gate City Bank Room at Nistler Hall. Laura Hand, director of the MPA program, opened the ceremony.

Pi Alpha Alpha is the national honor society for public administration and public affairs, recognizing students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to public service. This year’s inductees included Courtney Ceroll, Precious Dada, Chris Egeland, Niassa Harris-Wazoua, Yeno Lokosang, Shayla Newgard, Troy Shockey, Aryan Siadat, William Towle, Hillary Tweet, and Martin Walsh. The students were recognized by UND Pi Alpha Alpha Chapter President Chris Lipsh.

The ceremony featured remarks from Todd Feland, City Administrator for Grand Forks, whose presentation, “Pondering Lessons from Public Administration and City Administration,” highlighted the importance of collaborative leadership, community partnerships, and public service. Feland is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha and ND ASPA, as well as a graduate of UND’s MPA program.

The event also included a Pi Alpha Alpha honorary induction recognizing Patrick O’Neill for his longstanding service and leadership at UND. O’Neill joined the university in 1987 and has served in numerous academic and administrative leadership roles within the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration. Paul Sum, chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, presented the honorary award.

Michelle Buehlmann, UND Pi Alpha Alpha Advisor, noted that the induction ceremony celebrates not only academic achievement, but also the values of ethical leadership and public service that are central to the field of public administration.
