Complete UND Orientation Steps, Dining Plan, and More

Your student’s first day as a UND Fighting Hawk is coming soon!
Now is the time to make sure your student is as prepared as possible.

If your student hasn’t done so already, please make sure they complete these action items as soon as possible.

1. Register for Classes and UND Orientation Day

At UND Orientation Days, your student will learn what to expect during their first year at UND, connect with other new UND students, visit with financial aid representatives and receive their student ID card.

By attending one of the dates scheduled for July 17, 18, 19, 22, 23 or 24 in Grand Forks, your student will be in the best position to succeed when classes start.

If your student hasn’t registered yet, there is still time. Log into the UND Orientation Program Reservation System at UND.edu/orientation and reserve a spot today!

2. Log into UND student email

If your student hasn’t done so, have them log into their UND student email to receive official UND communications.

Follow the directions at UND.edu/email. Their UND email account is the official means by which UND will communicate with them once they begin classes.

Please encourage them to check their email often!

3. Complete the necessary steps for financial aid

Remember, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible at studentaid.gov. UND’s code is 003005.

If your student received financial aid from UND, make sure they log into Campus Connection to accept/decline their award and take care of any holds or to-do list items.

If your student accepted a federal student loan, they must also complete Entrance Loan Counseling and sign the Master Promissory Note.

If your financial aid will not fully cover your costs, you can sign up for an optional, no interest payment plan.

UND offers 3, 4, and 5 month payment plans via Nelnet in Campus Connection. The length of the plan is determined when you sign up. There is a $30 fee for payment plan enrollment.

For more information, refer to UND.edu/financial-aid.

4. Select Dining Plan by June 25

If your student is living on campus, make sure your student self-selects a dining plan by June 25. Silver All-Access Dining Plans will be assigned for those who did not self-select. For more information, refer to UND.edu/dining/meal-plans.

5. Take care of health care needs

Students can access their patient health portal at  myhealth.UND.edu to enter their required immunizations and upload their records electronically. All newly admitted on-campus and online students must provide documentation of the following:

  • 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
  • 1 dose of meningitis vaccination given after 16th birthday (if 21 or younger)
  • TB (Tuberculosis) Risk Assessment (international students only)

Make sure they take care of their medical needs, medications and immunizations and plan for continuity in their health care. Learn about everything UND Student Health Services offers at UND.edu/student-health.

6. Submit student ID photo by July 1

Students can upload their own student ID photo by July 1 at UND.edu/ucard. Please make sure to follow the photo requirements.

If your student uploads their student ID photo by July 1, they’ll be able to pick up their U Card during Orientation Days by showing a government issued photo identification card, e.g., driver’s license, passport, etc.

7. Watch for parking permits to go on sale in July

UND is a walkable campus with many options for FREE shuttle services for students:

  • The City of Grand Forks operates the UND campus shuttles, with two 15-minute routes that run along University Avenue, and a third route that reaches the Wellness Center and Medical School.
  • The UND Aviation Shuttle transports aviation students to and from Ryan Hall the UND Airport every half hour
  • Students can ride anywhere on the Cities Area Transit system with their student ID.

If your student will be bringing a car to campus, the 2024-24 parking permits will go on sale in July and are valid Aug. 1, 2024, through July 31, 2025.

  • Residence Hall Permits are valid in their designated hall lot, the UND Airport and UND Wellness Center. For each residence hall, there are convenient and perimeter permit options and are sold a first-come, first-served basis. The convenient permits tend to sell out quickly!
  • Students not living in the residence halls may purchase a Commuter Student Permit and park in designated “A/S” lots.
  • A Student Parking Ramp Permit is also available to park in the ramp and “A/S” lots. The student ramp permit also sells out.

Watch for email notifications when the parking permits go on sale in July. Please feel free to visit UND Parking Services’ website or contact parking@UND.edu or 701.777.3551 with any questions you may have.

8. Make lodging and other plans to attend Welcome Weekend, Aug. 24-26

The UND Welcome Weekend is an exciting time for students and their families and promises to be a busy weekend in Grand Forks. Make sure you’re looking ahead to your travel and any lodging needs you may have, as hotels may fill up quickly. If families need hotel accommodations, make your reservations as soon as possible.
