Primary Care Week to be held in-person and online Oct. 23-27

Primary Care Week 2023 will be held in-person and online from Oct. 23-27. A full schedule of the Week’s events follows:

Monday, Oct. 23

“Incorporating Mental Health and Addiction Medicine into a Primary Care Practice” with Dr. Melissa Henke
Intended audience: all health profession students • lunch provided by ND Professional Health Program

Dr. Melissa Henke is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Henke will discuss her career path, her current practice, and the importance of mental health services for healthcare professionals. Additionally, she will speak about how incorporating mental health and addiction medicine into a primary care practice can help entire communities.

Summer Opportunities Luncheon

Family Medicine Residency – Program Director Panel

North Dakota has four Family Medicine Residency programs. Hear from each of the program directors and find out what they look for in applications and during residency interviews! Come with your questions about what you should be doing to prepare for a successful residency application.

Community Meet and Greet

When: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: SMHS second floor, classrooms E222, E223, E224
Come “meet and greet” our healthcare providers from all over North Dakota! Learn about various healthcare job opportunities in both rural and urban settings, and make connections with future potential employers! Lunch provided by the Center for Rural Health. Pre-registration is appreciated.

Friday, Oct. 27

Breakfast with AHEC
Intended audience: any interested health profession student
When: 7:15 – 8:30 a.m.
Where: SMHS east Atrium, first floor
Enjoy coffee and pastries and learn about Area Health Education Center (AHEC) scholars and AHEC clinical rotation support.
