Department of Medical Laboratory Science faculty to present at Clinical Laboratory Educators Conference

Faculty with the UND Department of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) have been selected to present their work at the annual Clinical Laboratory Educators’ Conference (CLEC) in Las Vegas, Nev., Feb. 22-24, 2024.

Assistant professors Rebecca Bakke and Hannah Hove will present a poster entitled “Create your own case study: A multifaceted approach to student learning,” which relates to a novel case study approach implemented in their undergraduate clinical microbiology courses. Likewise, Dr. Samantha Peterson will present a poster entitled “Pick your own path! Interactive, virtually simulated case studies for teaching professionalism to MLS students.” The poster showcases Dr. Peterson’s use of SimTutor software to build immersive, real-world student learning experiences. Dr. Peterson will join Dr. Brooke Solberg in presenting an additional poster: “Impact of assignment and exam submission timing in online asynchronous courses.” This poster examines the relationship between students’ assignment completion behaviors and academic performance in online hematology courses.

CLEC is the only American conference singularly devoted to medical laboratory education, and is described by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) as the “most important annual event for faculty, administrators, directors, advisers, and others in clinical laboratory science education.” More than 500 educators from across the nation attend CLEC annually.
