Patrick Kane to discuss surgery and emotional intelligence at next Surgery Grand Rounds May 17

For the next Surgery Grand Rounds, to be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, May 17, Patrick Kane, M.D., will present “Teaching Surgical Residents & Concepts of Emotional Intelligence.” This broadcast will be held via Zoom/video conferencing. Dr. Kane is a recent University of North Dakota General Surgery Residency Program graduate and a general surgeon at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.

Upon completion of this program, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss how “soft skills” are important in training surgical residents.
  • Explain the overall architecture of emotional intelligence (EI).
  • List the common validated tools/models used to assess and train EI.
  • Identify which aspects of EI in which surgery residents are often stronger and weaker.

This Grand Rounds presentation, sponsored by the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences and the School’s Department of Surgery, is broadcast via video conference to many sites throughout North Dakota and Minnesota and is also streamed via personal computers.
